Excerpts
Cinderella: a REAL life fairytale
“Hey, Cindee, before I forget. You have a real nice day.”
I nod with about the blankest expression I’ve ever felt, and then he winks. HE LITERALLY WINKS!
My eyes are as big as I can stretch them.
Either Henry Christensen just did that on purpose, or he has something irritating his eye. I want to go with my first choice, but the second one seems more accurate. I’m the girl with no name, until just now, standing in a huge coat, so it’s gotta be the second choice, right?
“Henry? Is that you?” Priscilla’s sticky-sweet voice interrupts.
He doesn’t speak a word as he presses on the gas to slowly start backing up.
“I’ll stop by the station to pick up the trucks in a while. Make sure you’re there,” he says before quickly pulling onto Main Street where everything disappears, except for the faint glow of his brake lights that blink three times.
Is he saying goodbye? I know other girls back in high school had boys do this to them, but not me. NOT EVER. Not once did a boy tap his brake lights to me. I think I’ve died and gone to heaven.

Beauty and the Beast: a REAL life fairytale
“Thank you for this.” I whisper into Adam’s ear.
“For what?” He grins.
“For being the kind of man that makes a woman believe there’s a God in heaven.” I nuzzle into his shoulder and close my eyes as the preacher asks us to pray.
Once we finish, the rows of people begin to stand. I wipe under my eyes one more time just to make sure I don’t have mascara running down my face.

The Frogg Princess: a REAL life fairytale
“You probably shouldn’t be with a girl like me. I could corrupt a boy like yourself,” I tease, trying to ease the heat flooding my face. How could I push myself on him? I’m cringing inside at being so stupid.
“Nah, I’d happily go as far as you’d allow me,” he softly chuckles. “I just have a promise I made with my brother.”
“A promise?” I narrow my eyes.
“Yeah, we both agreed to wait for marriage.”
I stifle a gasp. Is he for real?

A Viscount's Proposal (The Regency Spies of London Book 2) by Melanie Dickerson

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society’s shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She’s determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents—or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage—alone and after dark—the ensuing gossip may force them together.

Withinghall has his reasons for clinging to propriety; his father perished in a duel with his mistress’s husband, and Edward must avoid scandal himself if he wants to become prime minister. He certainly has no time for a reckless hoyden like Miss Langdon. But soon the two discover that Withinghall’s coach “accident” was no such thing: the vehicle was sabotaged.

Can the culprit be brought to justice? Strong-willed Leorah and duty-driven Withinghall will have to work together if they have any hope of saving her reputation, his political career—and his life.

My Thoughts:

I have been a fan of Melanie Dickerson for a while now. I have read almost all of her medieval fairy tale retellings and was excited to find that she had written a Regency. Actually two; as this is book two, I can't wait to read book one! (It's no secret that I love a good Regency romance, I may be slightly obsessed with them, maybe...)

The story has a similar story line to Pride and Prejudice (of which I am a big fan). Our hero and heroine meet and clash from day one. Leorah is determined to dislike the stuffy viscount; Edward couldn't imagine any positive traits in the flighty miss Langdon. However, circumstances throw the two together often, and even place them in a compromising situation. They begin to see beyond the surface and realize that they may have been wrong about each other.

The added mystery element helps keep the story moving forward, and the dialog is fantastic. This is a great, light Regency for fans of Historical Romance.

Synopsis (from Goodreads): The last person Dr. Riley Rogers wants to meet is her absentee boss, Mr. Bachelor of the Year Dean Matthias. If his notorious reputation is close to true, his visit will only disrupt the peace she’s found caring for people at the humanitarian clinic. With every word, Dean confirms that his head is as big as his billboard. It will take all the manners of her Midwestern upbringing to play nice to the man who controls her contract.

After losing nearly everything to his backstabbing ex-fiance, Dean needs the Worldwide Care project to be a success to prove to the Matthias Foundation that he's not the irresponsible mess the media portrays him as. But from the moment the beautiful, headstrong Riley Rogers appears in his life, nothing goes as planned.

When Dean’s presence, and the lure of his wealth, draws out a local terrorist group, Dean and Riley are forced to flee into the wild Filipino jungle. Sparks of attraction fly between them, but if they don’t learn to trust each other—and themselves—they’ll never survive long enough to know if it’s love.

My Thoughts:

This is one of those books I like to call a great date night book. It has something for just about everyone. Action, romance, and a little comedy (although not much, just an episode where Dean takes some painkillers...you've seen someone on painkillers, I'll let your imagination paint the picture for you.)

This Destination Billionaire Romance did feel a little heavier than some of the other books in this series (the characters do not always intersect in this series, it is just a group of authors that release at least one book a month with the same theme: a romance involving a rich young man in an exotic locale). Our hero is shot early on in the story and has to try to escape through the jungles of the Philippines, in an attempt to escape terrorists who are after his family's money.

The romance begins in the classic guy meets girl, guy acts like a jerk, girl hates guy, but then along the way things change. Forced to rely on one another, they both come to see that there is more than meets the eye about the other, and sparks begin to fly (helped a little at times by the aforementioned painkillers).

This ebook will take you for a romantic adventure through the Philippines, one where you are not sure how Dean and Riley are going to make it out alive.

A great, weekend read.

Hearts On Fire: Park City Firefighter Romance by Christine Kersey

Synopsis (from Goodreads): Arwen Butler has no time for love—she’s too busy focusing on her new career as a therapist. But when she joins a gym and hot firefighter Tyler Reed becomes her personal trainer, she may have to rethink her priorities.

After losing the woman he loves, Tyler is determined to protect his crushed heart by never falling in love again. Then he meets beautiful and confident Arwen. Though drawn to her, he desperately fights his attraction.

When Arwen is thrust into a deadly situation, Tyler will have to choose—overcome his resistance to love or keep his heart locked up for good.

My Thoughts:

This quick read romance has a great deal of depth for such a short book. Arwen and Tyler are both trying to avoid a relationship. Arwen is focused on her career and Tyler is determined to avoid the heartache of losing a loved one by pre-emptively cutting off all possibilities. As often is the case in life and literature, fate has a different plan for our heroes. However; just when you think a catalyst has been enough to send them into each other's arms for good, someone gets cold feet.

I really enjoyed the fact that the story continued beyond the first chance at happily ever after. Real life is full of challenges to relationships, and this story has the main characters pushed and pulled apart several times before the happily every after that we all desire comes to fruition.

Hearts on Fire is the second in a multi author series of books set in Park City, Utah. I truly enjoy what I have read so far in this series, and others that the authors have combined to create. Look for more reviews going forward from this and other series like them.

Rating: 4 stars

Content: There is some violence in one scene, but over all a clean read with no profanity or sexual content.

A Fine Gentleman by Sarah M Eden

Synopsis (from Goodreads): London barrister Jason Jonquil has spent his entire life working to establish his identity as a gentleman, a man of refinement like his father and brothers. But when fiery Spanish beauty Mariposa Thornton walks into his office, he finds himself losing his grasp on his dignified character. The woman is infuriating, pushing him to the limit of his legendary patience. However, her case seems simple enough—a small matter of inheritance. Or so he believes.

Once a well-born lady, Mariposa fought to survive the brutalities of Napoleon’s war on Spain. She braved horrific perils and undertook dangerous missions on behalf of those fighting against the invading French army. But her greatest battle still lies ahead: after being separated from her family, Mariposa sets in motion a plan to reunite with her loved ones in England. To avoid drawing the attention of the French, Mariposa dons a carefully crafted persona to conceal her true purpose. As Jason and Mariposa are drawn together by the case, they come to know the people beneath the masks they both wear.

When the truth of Mariposa’s quest is revealed, the couple is pulled into a mystery that will test the limits of their courage—and expose the true desire of their hearts.

My Thoughts:

Ah, Sarah Eden, thank you for taking us back into the world of the Jonquil brothers. The more I get to know these brothers, the more I come to love them. In A Fine Gentleman we get to know Jason Jonquil. We start to see cracks in the outer shell that he has worked so hard to erect; and better come to understand what made him feel the need to build it.

The best part about each of the Jonquil books, and more particularly  this one, is the relationships we see develop and strengthen between the characters. There is so much more to this story than a simple love story between a seemingly flighty Mariposa (who is much wiser than she at first may seem) and the stuffy barrister. We see brothers struggle to understand one another; learn of relationships forged in the hardships of war; a young woman's devotion to her brother; the devotion between grandmother and grand daughter; and of course romance.

Dialogue is one of Eden's strengths and A Fine Gentleman doesn't disappoint in this arena either. The way Mariposa talks Jason in circles makes me want to cheer at her wit.

There is no denying that I am an Eden fan, and more particularly a fan of Eden's Regency books. This one is worth the $9.99 price point!

Kindle Unlimited...aka How I Keep Up With My Reading Habits Without Going Broke

If you are anything like me, you love to read...and you plow through reading material like a teenage boy through the contents of a refrigerator. If I had to purchase every book that I read at full price, I would be in debt up to my ears. The library is a great resource, however, I truly love reading on my phone because I have my book in my pocket at all times. Most library systems do offer an ebook borrowing program, however the books available are often limited.

Enter Kindle Unlimited. Kindle unlimited is a book subscription program similar to what Netflix is for TV and Movies. You pay a monthly fee of $9.99 and you can borrow as many books (that are part of the Kindle Unlimited Library) as you can read during each month. You can have up to ten books on your account at one time, and simply have to return a book to download another once you have hit your limit of ten. I don't have to feel guilty about reading a new book, because I click on that little tab that says "read for free with Kindle Unlimited." Guilt free book buying, I'll take it!

Many of the books that I will review over the next few weeks will be a part of the Kindle Unlimited program. So to read them without buying each, click on the banner below for a free trial!

Look for more reviews coming soon

I have been silent as of late, life as a full time working mom to children who are not so young anymore has been very busy. However, I miss reviewing books. I plan to review the ebooks that I read for my own enjoyment and share them occasionally here on this blog. So if you happen to stop by, I would love it if you shared your thoughts as well. Here's to more book reviews in 2017.
